You glance toward the door to make sure Ksenija isn't about the blow back in through the door and then dart the short distance over to the kitchen phone. You pick it up and press the phone against your shoulder with your ear, pressing the buttons to dial your sister's cell phone. Nothing happens. You try again, with no luck. It suddenly hits you that there should be a dial tone, instead of silence. The phone is dead. You're starting to feel like the first person to die in a horror movie. There's still no sign of Ksenija. You glance around to look for anything you could use as a weapon but there's nothing on the counter. Opting to take the opportunity to bolt rather than start digging around, you run for the door. Outside, you can see Ksenija in the distance, chasing after the bird flying directly over the road to the town. She's waving her arms and, you assume, cursing at it.
The goat is still in the yard, staring at you again. It seems like it hadn't moved at all since you got there. You have the thought that if you walked over there it would turn out to be a cardboard cutout of a goat. In that moment it makes a stereotypical goat noise, like someone googled "goat sound" and played it through an unseen speaker, which creeps you out even more. You definitely had more than enough of this bizarre place.
